OBREMS Annual Dinner 2012

The 3rd Annual Dinner of the Oxford Brookes Real Estate Management Society (OBREMS) took place on Thursday 15 November 2012. The setting for the dinner this year was The Grand Connaught Rooms. Impressive. The following is designed to give a flavour of the evening's events - photos by Gina Dalton.

The evening started at 7pm with a champagne reception. Half an hour later, everyone took their seats and enjoyed a welcome from Tom Leeming, the OBREMS Chairman.

Then the meal started with confit of loch duart salmon, pickled mouli and cucumber, horseradish cream and sakura cress or roasted Mediterranean vegetable tartlet with goats cheese and herb salad. And then finished...for a bit, whilst the Dinner Speaker took to the floor. This year OBREMS had invited Oxford Brookes alumni, Ben Hunt-Davis to speak. Ben is an alumni of the Planning Department at Oxford Brookes and also won Olympic Gold in 2000 in the coxed 8's. And yes, he did bring his medal with him.

The main course followed the speech: slow braised shoulder of lamb and roasted lamb rump steak with smokey mash, spinach and confit garlic thyme jus (which means gravy to some) or roast butternut squash, pea risotto with poached eggs and herb sauce. The meal was rounded off with chilled chocolate marquise with pistachio ice cream. Wine flowed throughout the meal with coffee with chocolate mints to round things off.

This year, alumni from as far back as 1975 attended the dinner - back in the days when Oxford Brookes University was Oxford Polytechnic. There was a family theme too: Richard Goode, who graduated in 1975 was accompanied by his son Alex Goode (see photos below) who graduated in 2012!
