The Real Estate Profession - the first rung on the ladder

The job application season is well underway for both our final year undergraduates and our MSc students. The season kicked off with an introductory session on careers in the property industry with Nick French (Programme Leader for the MSc Real Estate) and Sue Holton (Head of the Careers and Employment Centre at Oxford Brookes).

And then on 7 October students and staff were joined by members of our alumni society OBREMS and the Department of REC Professional Liaison Group for a whole day dedicated to careers. The day consisted of a series of presentations with plenty of breaks for networking and discussions. The first session: Things That You Need to Know, featured a few faces from the MSc Real Estate 2011 and 2013.

Hugo Lear from Savills (MSc RE 2013) on Agency: Knowledge to Underpin People Skills.
Hugo also won a Sociable Surveyors Internship in 2013 - read more here.

Chloe Hazell from Deloitte (MSc RE 2013) on Valuation: Things to Know.

Natasha Sidoli from Savills talking about OBREMS (our alumni society) and Working in the Real World.

Natasha Sidoli again, talking about Seeking a Job: Things to Know.
Natasha won the MSc Real Estate prize in 2013 - read more about it, and see Natasha's profile here.

Adam Greenhalgh from DTZ (MSc RE 2011) gave a presentation on Training and Working Post APC
and then joined Nick, Chloe and Natasha for the Questions session before lunch.

After lunch the day continued with the afternoon session : Employment Opportunities and the RICS, featuring presentations on:

The day finished with a drinks reception (sponsored by Savills) in the atrium of the Abercrombie Building.

The next event was the Real Estate and Construction Careers Fair which took place on 13 October. This year 43 companies attended the fair as well as staff from the Oxford Brookes Careers and Employment Centre. Another great day for networking.
