Love on the MSc Real Estate

Here in the Department of Real Estate and Construction, we have always known that some great friendships are made each year on the MSc Real Estate. So when we heard about this, we wanted to share the story with you. Our first wedding.

When Guy and Caroline started the MSc Real Estate Management back in September 2007, little did they know what was to happen next. Caroline told me the full story...

The first term was filled with innocent flirting (how did they find time for this?) and then Guy drunkenly told me how much he'd missed me over the Christmas break. He posed a hypothetical question: how would I react if he asked me on a date? I told him to ask me when he was sober. Which he duly did and we had our first date in CoCo's Italian restaurant on Cowley Road on 4th March 2008. The reaction of our fellow classmates was that it was inevitable. Of course, Guy asked Nick (French, the MSc Programme Leader) for his permission and he gave his blessing, saying we made a great couple!

Our wedding took place 5 years later on 8th June 2013 at a church in North Yorkshire followed by a marquee reception at my parents house in North Yorkshire.

The wedding featuring the MSc students (left to right): James C, Hannah L, Alastair H, Emma B, Guy, Caroline, Dan B, Amy N, Daisy H, George H, Louisa B, Simon L.

One of the best things about the MSc Real Estate is that the people we met have become some of our best mates which is fantastic when we are also working in the same industry. It makes networking much easier! This is demonstrated by Amy (pictured in the photo) also doing a reading at the wedding. Having vowed we would never work for the same company, we ironically both now work for PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Many thanks to Caroline and Guy for sharing their story with us and for providing the photo.

Who knows, next year it could be YOU!
