Careers in Real Estate 2015

The job application season is well underway for both our final year undergraduates and our MSc students. The first three careers events have already taken place, with more to follow. The first event was a lunchtime introductory session for real estate students, featuring Nick French and Paul Jenkins (Real Estate) and Sue Holton from Careers. This event was the first in a series that continues throughout semester one - watch out on our Facebook page for the latest news:

  • 15 October - CV writing and the application process with Paul Jenkins and Sue Holton
  • 29 October - presentation from Leah Knapton (Deloitte) on online applications and interviews
  • 5 November - presentation from Nicola Bentham (Colliers International) on employability
  • 12 November - careers presentation hosted by Nick French
  • 19 November - presentation from Will Clough (Allsop Auctions)

The second event was held on 6 October when students and staff were joined by members of our alumni society OBREMS and the Real Estate Professional Liaison Group for a whole day dedicated to careers. The day consisted of a series of presentations with plenty of breaks for networking and discussions. The morning sessions featured presentations from some of our recent graduates:

Clockwise from top right: James Bircumshaw (BSc REM 2014) from Savills on Valuation - things to know; Jack Franklin (MSc RE 2013) from Knight Frank on Investment Agency - knowledge to underpin people skills; Georgia Eckert (BSc REM 2014) from Jones Norris Adams on OBREMS and working in the real world; Chris Green (BSc REM 2014) from Savills on Seeking a Job - things to know.

After lunch the day continued with the afternoon session : Employment Opportunities and the RICS, featuring presentations on:

  • Working for 'smaller' firms, by Josh Myerson (Montague Evans)
  • Working 'client side', by Victoria Burrows (Grosvenor)
  • Training and working post APC, by Adam Greenhalgh (Cushman & Wakefield)

The day finished with a drinks reception (sponsored by Savills)...

The next event was the Real Estate and Construction Careers Fair which took place on 12 October. This year more than 40 companies attended the fair as well as staff from the Oxford Brookes Careers and Employment Centre. Another great day for networking.
