MSc Real Estate 2015: Welcome, London and Sponsors' Day

After welcoming the new students to the MSc Real Estate, Nick French (the programme leader) packed a lot into the first couple of weeks, including two field trips and a seminar day featuring presentations from the MSc Real Estate sponsors. The field trips included the walking tour of Oxford (postponed to the end of the week due to the weather) and the trip to Cushman & Wakefield/DTZ in London (see below). The walking tour of Oxford is covered in a later blog post (click here).

First of all WELCOME to the MSc Real Estate 2015! And thanks to Andressa Minogue, Rosie Gentle and Tom Lang for the photos.

On Thursday 17 September, the students went to Cushman & Wakefield/DTZ at 125 Old Broad Street in the heart of the City of London. The day was hosted by Cushman & Wakefield (who are in the process of merging with DTZ)  -  one of the sponsors of the MSc Real Estate at Oxford Brookes. The students attended a number of presentations including: A Day in the Life of a Graduate (given by Marcel Goerlich who graduated from the MSc International Real Estate in 2013), Graduate Recruitment 2016 and EMEA Capital Markets. This was followed by a tour of City Offices by a member of the City Agency Team at Cushman & Wakefield.

During the second week, which is actually the first week (of semester one), Nick French organised a day for the MSc Real Estate students where the MSc sponsors are invited to give talks on a variety of subjects including sustainability, commercial investment, residential, insolvency, valuation and corporate real estate. The aim of the Sponsors' Day is to give the students an overview of the property industry and get them thinking about the different parts of the profession and how they fit together in the 'jigsaw of property'. The students could then start to think about how they might fit into the property industry and find their 'niche' after graduation.

The MSc Real Estate is sponsored by seven of the big players in the property industry: CBRE, Cluttons, Cushman & Wakefield/DTZ, GVA, Jones Lang LaSalle, Knight Frank and Savills. The sponsors are there to support the MSc Real Estate through the contribution of their expertise, time and resources (not financial). Activities include hosting field trips, guest lectures, careers advice and sponsoring (supporting) events such as the MSc Sponsors' Day.
